Which PLT® line thrower should I choose?
One of the nice things about the PLT® system is that once you have the Base Unit, you will have access to all the projectiles at a reasonable price. There are of course some guidelines to give in choosing equipment:
Lifesaving only:
If you are looking for just a stand-by tool for complying with IMO Solas regulation, the choice is simple: Rescue 230. It is Ship Wheel marked and has NATO stock no: 1095-25-142-3704. If you have the base unit, you are able to buy additional projectiles for this base unit. This is for a rather small cost, such as mooring projectiles. In this way you will have a powerful tool for other work applications.
Mooring and general line transfer only:
For this purpose we recommend Mooring 75 or Mooring 150. However, many users choose to buy a mix of these models. So when they for instance buy Mooring 75, they include one or two projectiles from Mooring 150 (art 7004) and a launching tube for these. By this way, they will have several options for line transfer depending on the situation. And if you really want to optimize the PLT, you buy projectiles for Rescue 230, making it a Solas approved life throwing appliance.
Smaller boats, patrol boats, MOB and water rescue:
The Mini PLT is a very handy tool for these groups. It is light weighted and easily handled. We also have a variety of projectiles depending on the situation.
Some special user groups:
Seismic vessels: Existing clients are using the base unit with grapnels for retrieving the buoys and equipment.
FPSO: Existing clients are using Rescue 230 due to range and because it can be used in oil and gas environments.
Cruise vessels and ferries: Existing clients are using Mooring 75 for mooring operations on regular basis or under difficult wind and current situations.
We will of course assist you in choosing the right equipment. Just contact us and specify your need and we will give you the best technical offer.
